Suitable for which type of housing? (House, townhome, apartment?) Any, but preferably one with a backyard
Is your dog good with other dogs? Yes. Only tested with small dogs, but he’s been very friendly. He does follow the other dogs around often, which the other dogs don’t always enjoy, but with some consistent reminders, he will eventually stop.
Is your dog good with cats? Untested
Is your dog good with kids? He can’t be left unattended with them, as he will growl/snap if his hair is pulled, they are in his space, or if he feels unsafe, etc.
Is your dog house trained? Yes. The occasional accident, but overall he is quite good.
Is your dog crate trained? Yes
Does your dog have any special needs? Yes. He has luxating patelas but is managing well with medication. Depending on the day, he may need some assistance with stairs. He cannot get up on a couch/bed, etc. on his own either. He is hard of hearing and seeing, but it doesn’t affect him much.
Does your dog have any or display any aggression? (Toys, food or people?) He will definitely let you know if he is unhappy or uncomfortable, by growling. Perhaps petting him with both hands is too much for him, or if he doesn’t want to be picked up, etc. His cues need to be taken seriously, as he will snap if he feels unsafe.
Is your dog playful? Overall he is very calm, and he does not play with toys. He can get an extra pep in his step sometimes and he trots around the house, but that’s about the extent of his energy. He also gets very excited when you come home from being out.
Does your dog like to snuggle? Not really. He is quite fragile and will growl/snap if cuddled. He may come beside you and lean on you, but that’s the extent of his cuddling. He does like to be very gently petted, but often growls at this as well. It is all very much on his own terms.
Does your dog know basic commands? (Sit, stay...) He is hard of hearing but he does appear to know the command “come” by clapping or waving your hand.
Does your dog know any special tricks? No
Does your dog like to go on walks? He loves walks and being outdoors and sniffing around. Because of his bad legs, he needs someone who is very patient on walks and will let him go at his own extremely slow pace. He should not be lead, as this can irritate his legs. Poking around a backyard is likely best, and he enjoys being let out numerous times a day. He is quite attracted to other dogs pee and poop, so he will need to be distracted from that so he does not eat it.
Does your dog have any fears? Not that I’m aware of.
Does your dog have any unique traits that you have noticed whether in personality or physically? Not that I’m aware of.
What are the three first words that come to mind when you think of your dog? Cute, Fragile, Old soul
MacDreamy is a very cute boy who really does strive to be friendly. He loves attention, but has a hard time explaining his comfort level. He is quite fragile, and while he may be eager to be petted, he may also growl. He sometimes gives kisses at the same time as growling, but his growling does need to be taken seriously, as he will snap if he becomes too overwhelmed. He does not like your face to be close to his. He requires someone who is very patient and understanding of this behaviour and is willing to work with him to gain his trust and love. This could take quite some time.
