FOSTERING A DOG At first glance, fostering a dog might feel like a big responsibility—but it’s one of the most meaningful and rewarding ways to change a dog’s life for the better.
Everyone benefits in a foster situation. The foster family gives a deserving dog a chance to heal and grow, which opens up space at the shelter for another dog in need. Most dogs don’t thrive in shelters—the stress, noise, and fear can suppress their true personalities. What adopters often see is a shy, scared, or withdrawn dog, when in reality, that same dog might be playful, sweet, and affectionate in a home environment. Fostering gives them that chance.
The dogs that sit in shelters are often past the “cute puppy” phase. But with time, love, and maybe a little training, these overlooked dogs can become loyal, loving companions—and avoid being euthanized due to lack of space.
As a foster, you provide the basics: food, exercise, training, socialization, and lots of love. Some dogs may need help with house training or vet appointments, while others just need a quiet, safe place to stay until they’re adopted. Picture the kind of dog you would want to adopt—a foster home helps make that transformation possible.
Freedom Dog Rescue covers all food, supplies, and medical expenses. You just provide a safe and loving environment. Our foster program wouldn’t exist without the incredible people who open their homes and hearts.
We are 100% volunteer-run, and our volunteers and fosters are the heart and soul of our rescue. Without their support, we could not have saved over 2,500 dogs in just 10 years of operation.

BECOMING A TRANSPORT VOLUNTEER
At first glance, driving dogs or supplies around might seem like a small task—but it’s one of the most impactful and rewarding ways to help dogs in need find safety, care, and a second chance.
Everyone benefits when a transport volunteer steps up. You help dogs get to vet appointments, move from shelters into loving foster homes, and ensure that supplies make it into the hands of the people caring for them. Every drive you take brings hope, healing, and freedom one step closer for a dog in care.
Most of our dogs come from difficult situations and need a little extra support. They might be scared, shy, or unsure—but every safe ride they take helps them learn trust and comfort. Whether you’re transporting a dog to a medical appointment, delivering food to a foster home, or picking up a new arrival from the shelter, your vehicle becomes their path to a better life.
As a transport volunteer, you provide the basics: a valid driver’s license, a reliable vehicle, and a love for dogs. You’ll need to be 18 or older, and comfortable handling animals in a safe, calm way. Some dogs may be nervous or unsure, while others will hop right in with a wagging tail—but all of them need your help getting where they need to go.
Freedom Dog Rescue provides donation receipts for every kilometer driven in support of our dogs in care. You choose when you’re available, and we’ll work with your schedule.
We are 100% volunteer-run, and our fosters and transport volunteers are the heart and soul of our rescue. Without their wheels on the ground, we couldn’t have saved over 2,500 dogs in just 10 years of operation.
