Suitable for which type of housing? House with a reasonably sized secure yard.
Is your dog good with other dogs? Yes, he's fine with other dogs.
Is your dog good with cats? He seems curious about them. A slow introduction would be important to ensure he doesn't identify as prey.
Is your dog good with kids? Yes, he’s a big sweetie and loves humans of all sizes. He is however very tall and can be clumsy at times, so he may not be the ideal pet for a family with smaller children.
Is your dog house trained? Yes. He does not like to poo on leash though so he does his business in the yard.
Is your dog crate trained? He seems totally fine being in his crate (especially when coaxed with treats!), he sleeps in there and will have naps in there as needed. He's been tested home alone crated for up to 4-5 hours with no problem.
Does your dog have any special needs? No. Loki can be somewhat excitable when there is in a new/change in environment (ex. at the vet, first few minutes of our walks, new people to meet, grooming, etc..) but is generally able to quickly calm himself and is otherwise a rather chill dog.
Does your dog have any or display any aggression? He demonstrates some prey drive but so far has been fairly easy to redirect. He can be a bit bossy with our current dog and does not want to share toys or food that he identifies as his.
Is your dog playful? Somewhat, he is very goofy and talkative (husky mix) and will "ask" to go on walks. We have not heard him bark since we've been fostering him. He likes chasing the ball, but has not yet learned how to return it. Aside from his initial excitability, he's quite relaxed and sleeps for an important part of the day. He seems to love car rides as well and will ask to go in the car when we walk past it in the driveway!Does your dog like to snuggle? Yes, he is extremely affectionate and cuddly with everyone he meets. He thinks he's a lap dog and will try to curl up in your lap if you let him!
Does your dog know basic commands? Yes, he knows commands like “Sit,” “Stay,” "Shake a paw", "Wait", “Lay down". Again, when he's excited, he can somewhat be distractable.Does your dog know any special tricks? No special tricks, but he is a stellar jogging partner!
Does your dog like to go on walks? He loves going on walks but can pull especially at the beginning. A gentle leader head collar works really well to minimize the pulling. Once he settles, he's very enjoyable to walk. Currently we walk him about 45-60 minutes per day (split over 2 walks) which seems to meet his needs.
Does your dog have any fears? He is afraid of thunderstorms and snowplows. He doesn't like vacuums, but is not terrified of them.
Does your dog have any unique traits that you have noticed whether in personality or physically? Loki has a striking (and soft!) black and white coat. He is a very beautiful (very tall) large breed. True to his (partial) husky lineage he can be stubborn at times and will benefit from a family that will be consistent with training and rules. As long as he is walked sufficiently and gets lots of social interaction, he's a very easy going dog.
What are the three first words that come to mind when you think of your dog? Loving, engaging, goofy.
Meet Loki, a 2.5-year-old Husky mix with a playful spirit and a heart full of love for his humans. Loki is a big fan of the outdoors (except on hot days!) and enjoys being part of a loving family. He is house and crate trained, likes car rides and new experiences (except baths and going to the vet!). Loki gets along well with kids and other dogs, and while he’s not quite sure about cats or small animals (not recommended), he’s extremely friendly with people. Loki would thrive in a home where he can get plenty of social interaction, cuddles and moderate physical activity. He’s a loving and loyal companion who’s ready to find his forever home.
