FREEDOM DOG RESCUE FREEDOM DOG RESCUE FREEDOM DOG RESCUE

MAGEL'S PICS

    MAGEL'S BIO

    BREED : SHORT LEG HUSKY X - MALE - 9.5 MONTHS OLD

    Age? 9-10 months

Breed? Short legged – husky shepherd Iqaluit mix, about 45 to 50 lb

    • Suitable for which type of housing? (House, townhome, apartment?) Any – can live in attached housing if he has adequate exercise and access to washroom, can still howl a little when settling in or in crates for too long.
    • Is your dog good with other dogs? Yes, and is fostered with three other bigger and taller dogs, current foster home does recommend that he either gets adopted as a solo dog OR adopt to family/adopters that are willing to work on his dog-on-dog resource guarding – setting up firm boundaries like feeding and offer high values resources separately, not let the other dog near his space when he has valuable things, not let him provoke the other dogs with toys. He will play rough with the resident dog(s), and can have some jealousy issues with other dogs if not properly given structures. Sometimes, he can see smaller dogs as prey type playmates and would heighten his excitement or roughness in play.
    • Is your dog good with cats? No, has attempted to live in homes with cats and he would chase and bark nonstop to the point that the cats are afraid of him and most likely heighten his excitement for prey drive.
    • Is your dog good with kids? Untested but probably children 7+ old, he is getting out of his mouthy stage and can be quite calm and cuddly when he wants to be
    • Is your dog house trained? Yes
    • Is your dog crate trained? Yes. He sleeps in crate overnight as well as during working hours.
    • Does your dog have any special needs? He is a good candidate to be a solo dog or with a home that is willing to set proper boundaries between him and the resident dogs. He should be placed in a home with bigger and taller dogs and family should set proper boundaries between him and the other resident dogs to ensure trust with all furry family members.
    • Does your dog have any or display any aggression? (Toys, food or people?) yes resources guard toys, food and anything of value from other dogs if the human are not setting proper boundaries and space for him and the resident dogs. Currently lives with three other dogs.
    • Is your dog playful? Yes!
    • Does your dog like to snuggle? Yes! When he is ready to stop running and playing
    • Does your dog know basic commands? (Sit, stay...) knows sit!
    • Does your dog know any special tricks? NA
    • Does your dog like to go on walks? Loves it! Can pull when sees another dog or squirrels. Easily redirected with liver bites
    • Does your dog have any fears? NA
    • Does your dog have any unique traits that you have noticed whether in personality or physically? Short legs, big white paws, one ear up, one ear down. Big happy smile. Reminds the foster of Lord Farquaad or Napoleon, drama queen, looks like an AI generated husky cross corgi, fake corgi.
    • What are the three first words that come to mind when you think of your dog? Porky, short, funny.

    • Magel is a hilarious, one-of-a-kind short-legged Husky-Shepherd-Iqaluit mix with a big personality packed into a compact, 45–50 lb frame. At just 9–10 months old, he's playful, energetic, and full of charm—his foster calls him an “AI corgi” thanks to his stubby legs, big white paws, and signature one-up, one-down ear combo. He’s crate and house trained, loves walks (especially with liver treats as motivation to break eye contact when he sees squirrels – high prey drive), and enjoys a good cuddle after burning off his energy. Magel can go on long walks 5KM + per day and can pull hard when he sees squirrels and small critters. Magel gets along with other large dogs but needs clear boundaries due to occasional dog on dog resource guarding; he’d thrive as a solo dog or with a dog-savvy home willing to manage structured interactions for all dogs. Soundproof apartments or townhomes are fine as long as he gets his daily exercise (he can cry for 10-15 minutes in a new setting)—and while he’s not a fit for homes with cats, he might do well with respectful kids 7+. A lovable mix of drama queen and snuggle bug, Magel is ready to bring laughter and love to the right forever home.
