Suitable for which type of housing? (House, townhome, apartment?) home with quick access to a back yard and separate entrance from neighbours – securely fenced backyard is highly recommended. She can bark quite a bit when first left alone so sound proofing can be important.
Is your dog good with other dogs? Yes good with most, can get a little sassy between sharing toys and easily annoyed with overly nervous dogs (dogs that constantly whines). Likes larger dogs that would like to play with her. Would see her succeed with her fear with some men with the help of another larger, confident, happy dog.
Is your dog good with cats? No, high prey drive
Is your dog good with kids? Due to her fearfulness, 16+ or house with no kids
Is your dog house trained? Yes – but for the first couple of days, she would be too scared to go out and may have accidents in the home (especially for night time bathroom break). after 3-4 days and watching the other dogs, she will understand where to do her business and her accidents reduced. Always praise and give her lots of encouragement when she figures it out, do not get frustrate with her when she initially has accidents.
Is your dog crate trained? No and not recommended. She is ok to be let loose in the house by herself with her pack or even by herself. She is ok with most household item but would need to have the counter to be cleared off of food items when left alone. She waits with the pack currently near the door for the human when the human goes to work.
Does your dog have any special needs? She is fearful with new people and is struggling at her last foster home with some of the men in the home. When she’s scared, she cannot be motivated by basic needs like food/treats or needing to use the bathroom and would bark. We are looking for a home that has low traffic, not a lot of comings and goings of house hold members, with some experiences working with fearful animals (like ignoring her until she comes to you, double leashing at first as she can be a flight risk, patience to understand that due to her fear she may have accidents in the home as she might be too scared to go outside, being her advocate and limit new people coming at her). Current foster noted that it took Mazy 1-2 days to come out of her shell with other dogs around to help her.
Does your dog have any or display any aggression? (Toys, food or people?) none with people but can get sassy if another dogs come at her things while she is occupied with her bone or toy. Not aggressive but would growl a little if the other dogs come close.
Is your dog playful? YES!
Does your dog like to snuggle? VERY!
Does your dog know basic commands? (Sit, stay...) Sits well
Does your dog know any special tricks? NA
Does your dog like to go on walks? Loves it and walks well, most of the time wants to follow her handler
Does your dog have any fears? New people and certain men – if she doesn’t like a certain man, she will continue to dislike the person and bark and ignore all treats/food to the point of refuse to go pass the person to get outside to do her business. She is not triggered by new people outside during walks, she would avoid them but foster have not noted any barking or fear withdrawal. First couple of nights, she did struggle to follow the foster to come back from outside as she is slow to trust new handlers.
Does your dog have any unique traits that you have noticed whether in personality or physically? black little muppet, loves to sit to the side and leave one of her legs to the side. She gives the best snuggles and sometimes she’s a mop of fur with a smile!
What are the three first words that come to mind when you think of your dog? scruffy, wiggly, sweet
Mazy is a sweet medium sized (about 30 LB) muppet terrier pup at 1 years of age. She is working on her fear with certain men/strange new people and with her fear, sometimes it can hinder her to bypass basic needs like food or treats and or using the bathroom. She is looking for a home that has low traffic, not a lot of comings and goings of house hold members, with some experiences working with fearful animals (like ignoring her until she comes to you, double leashing at first as she can be a flight risk, patience to understand that due to her fear, she may have accidents in the home as she might be too scared to go outside, being her advocate and limit new people coming at her). She is currently fostered with 5 other dogs and is loving her foster siblings. We did saw some success that another happy large confident dog would help her with her fear with new people and doing her bathroom in the dark. Current foster note that it took Mazy 1-2 days to come out of her shell and once she’s out, she is the loveliest little dog! Mazy doesn’t need to be crated once she is fully settled into the house hold routine and she will wait patiently by the door for her foster mom to return from work. If you would like to have this sweet little muppet by your side, please consider applying for Mazy by submitting an application OR emailing adoptions@freedomdogrescue.ca
