NELSON'S PICS

    NELSON'S BIO

BREED : IRISH WOLFHOUND MIX - MALE - 6 MONTHS OLD

    • Suitable for which type of housing?  Any so long as he has long walks and mentally stimulating activities (e.g. food puzzles). It is rare that he barks.
    • Is your dog good with other dogs?  Yes, he absolutely loves other dogs. It is highly recommended he be rehomed with another social, outgoing, and playful dog.
    • Is your dog good with cats? Untested Is your dog good with kids?  He would do best with dog-savvy kids aged 7+ as he is still learning to give space to those who may not want to play with him.
    • Is your dog house trained?  Yes so long as he is taken out at age-appropriate intervals.
    • Is your dog crate trained?  Yes, he loves his crate. Will whine briefly at night but goes in his crate at his own will throughout the day. He settles quickly if a towel is placed over the door of his crate.
    •  your dog have any special needs? No
    • Does your dog have any or display any aggression? (Toys, food or people?) No.
    • Is your dog playful? Yes, both independently and with others.
    • Does your dog like to snuggle? Somewhat…he likes if you go down to his level.
    • Does your dog know basic commands? (Sit, stay…). No. We are working on this!
    • Does your dog know any special tricks?  He is 50/50 on ringing a bell to indicate that he would like to go outside and knows "go potty" once outside.
    • Does your dog like to go on walks?  Yes, he is extremely well behaved on walks. He will try to pick up miscellaneous items on the ground if not closely watched when out on walks. He is learning not to pull in the direction of people/dogs he would like to meet.
    • Does your dog have any fears?  Walking alongside busy roads causes some nerves but he is readily encouraged to continue with verbal reassurance and pets.
    • Does your dog have any unique traits that you have noticed whether in personality or physically? His little brown beard and white chin.
    • What are the three first words that come to mind when you think of your dog? Sweetheart, intelligent, goofy.

    • I have yet to meet someone who has not commented on how well behaved this sweet boy is. While he is still learning his “basic” commands (sit, come, stay, etc), he is unbelievably obedient to redirection. Nelson is great with independent play. In particular, he adores his Kong (even when it’s empty!) and medium sized balls that he can kick around. He’s more motivated by vocal praise and redirection than he is by food/treats. That said, his favourite “treat” is simply his kibble! He is incredibly intelligent and requires mental exercise in addition to physical (he loves food puzzles and toys). Nelson loves meeting people and pups when out on walks and he stares wistfully at those who choose not to greet him while they walk away. He is not prey driven when out on walks — we often see bunnies on our nighttime walks and he has expressed only mild curiosity. He’s the sweetest boy.
