Is your dog good with other dogs: Yes, Sophie is playful and social with other dogs. A friendly and playful companion in her new home would be great, as long as they are fed separately as she can be protective of her food and favourite items. She plays well with the in-home dog in her foster home, though she can sometimes get exuberant.
Is your dog good with cats: There is a cat in the foster home who does not wish to interact with Sophie. However, Sophie is very interested in the cat, as well as cat litter and cat toys. She will chase cats that run. It is not recommended that Sophie is adopted into a home with cats as she can get over-excited.
Is your dog good with kids: Sophie is startled and timid of unexpected and quick movements. She has shown interest in neighbourhood kids when they ignore her and allow her to approach, but does not want them to pet her. Dog savvy and respectful children 10 + could be a match for Sophie under the right circumstances.
Is your dog house trained: No, she is still learning. She will pee with excitement when she sees her favourite people and when let of her crate in the morning.
Is your dog crate trained: Working on it. She can still be vocal in her crate, but is currently crated overnight and when foster family runs errands.
Does your dog have any special needs: Sophie will need a patient and experienced family (ideally with Northern or working breed experience) to help her build confidence and trust in them, and who will not push her too quickly into situations that make her uncomfortable or ignore her boundaries.
Does your dog have any or display any aggression (toys, food, people): Sophie will guard food and her favourite toys from other dogs. Sophie will guard high value items (bones, her favourite toy, tasty food items) from people occasionally, especially those she is unfamiliar with or in a high stress environment.
Is your dog playful: Yes, very. She will play with toys on her own and loves to run around with other dogs.
Does your dog like to snuggle: Yes, on her own terms. She loves snuggling on the couch and watching tv.
Does your dog know basic commands: Work in progress. She is good at sit, down, and responds to her name.
Does your dog know any special tricks: Not yet.
Does your dog like to go on walks: Sophie loves to be outside and explore all the scents. Her leash manners could use some improvement, she can pull when excited and especially pulls after squirrels, rabbits and birds.
Does your dog have any fears: Fast, unexpected movements. She doesn’t like quick movements from larger dogs, and she is fearful of being grabbed by strangers. She is afraid of small children/toddlers when they run forward to greet her.
Does your dog have any unique traits you have noticed whether in personality or physically: She hasn’t grown into her legs, so she is always tripping and being goofy running around.
What are the 3 first words that come to mind when you think of your dog: Silly, sweet and affectionate
Sophie is a sweetheart and loves to play with toys and other dogs. She is still a puppy, so she does chew and jump on things, but responds well to gentle correction. She is shy with new people but with slow introductions she warms up quickly, and would do best with dog savvy, older children 10+. Sophie would love another playful companion dog in the home. She would benefit from training to help her be the best doggy citizen she can be. Sophie is full of love and affection and will be a great companion for the right family!
